Our second case involves a beautiful interior photograph of a church sanctuary (see photos below). The only information we have for this image was written on the back (Church of the Redeemer, Pendleton, Oregon). I want to know more about this photograph, and I need your help. There is a lot of interesting detail that will help us determine some of the who, what, where, when and why information. According to Redeemer's website, the sanctuary was remodeled in the 1950's, so could it have been taken before then? Based on the clues in the photograph, would it be possible to narrow down the week it was taken? Notice the hymns that were sung (169-172, Hymnal 1940). What was the occasion for which they would have chosen evening prayer hymns (refer to the links below)? I was told that the color of the hangings could also help determine the time of year. Would the flower help identify the time of year or occasion? Next, take a closer look at the register on the wall to the right. Unfortunately, the information on the register is out of focus, but I can make out words such as "Attendance To Date", "Attendance Last Sunday", and "Offerings Last Sunday". What other information can we gather about this photograph? What does it make you think of?
This is a great opportunity for our friends out in Pendleton to share some of their favorite stories about Redeemer and it's beautiful sanctuary.
